Rotational Inertia Formula and Examples

Rotational Inertia Formula :

Rotational Inertia I(kg m2) in kilogram per meter2 is equal to the mass of the object m(kg) in kilogram and multiply the  radius of the circular path r2(m)   in meter. Hence the Rotational Inertia can be written as,

I(kg m2)=m(kg) * r2(m)

Where,

I→ rotational inertia in kg m2

M→ mass of the object in kg

R→ radius of the circular path in m

Examples :

Example 1 :

Calculate the moment of inertia of the object with mass 40kg and rotating around the radius 8m?

Solution :

Given,

M=40kg

R=8m

The formula Rotational inertia is

I=mr2

I=40*82

I=2560Kgm2

Example 2:

Calculate the moment of inertia of the object with mass 90kg and rotating around the radius 2m?

Solution :

Given,

M=90kg

R=2m

The formula Rotational inertia is

I=mr2

I=90*22

I=360 Kgm2
