### Radioactive Decay Formula :

Radioactive Decay formula N is equal to the initial quantity N_{0 } and multiply the Euler’s number e^{–} λ and multiply the half life of the decaying quantity T_{(s) } in second. Hence the Radioactive Decay formula can be written as

**N=N _{0} *e^{–} λT_{(s)}**

Where,

N_{0} → the initial quantity of the substance and N is the quantity still remained and yet decayed

T → half life of the decaying quantity

E → Euler’s number equal to 2.71828

Carbon-18 has a half life 6.840 years(t=6.840) we can use the formula

T_{1/2} =ln 2 / λ

λ =ln 2/ t_{1/2}

=0.693/6.840

=0.1013

Calculate the decay rate of carbon -18 ? In a Carbon-20 has a half life 9.432years.

### Solution :

Carbon-18 has a half life 9.432 years(t=9.432) we can use the formula

T_{1/2} =ln 2 / λ

λ =ln 2/ t_{1/2}

=0.693/9.432

=0.07347
