Energy Consumption Formula and Sample Problems

Energy Consumption Formula :

Energy consumption formula E(kwh) in kilowatt –hours is equal to the power P(w) in watts and multiply the t(h) in hours and divided by the 1000.Hence the Energy Consumption formula can be written as,

E(kwh)=P(w)*t(h)/1000

Where,

E→ energy in kilowatt-hours (kwh)

P→ power in watts

t → hours

Sample Problems :

Problem1 :

Calculate the energy consumption in a system that consumes 200watts of power and works for 2hrs a day?

Solution :

Given,

Power p=200w,

Total number of hours =2hrs

E=P*t/1000

E=200*2*60*60/1000

E=1440Kwh

Therefore the energy consumption is 1440Kwh

Problem2 :

Calculate the energy consumption a day? In a toy car consumes energy of 600 watts of power if it works for 4 hrs a day using it.

Solution :

Given,

Power p=600w

Total number o f hours=4hrs

E=P*t/1000

E=(600*4*60*60)/1000

E=8640Kwh
