### Apparent Depth Formula :

Apparent Depth formula is the refractive index of water μ_{2 } and the refractive index of water is equal to the real depth and divided by the apparent dept .Hence the apparent depth formula can be written as,

**μ _{2}/ μ1=u/v**

Here ,

u → real depth

V→ apparent dept

μ_{1}→ refractive index of air

μ_{2 → }refractive index of water

Calculate the apparent depth of the coin? In a coin is placed at the bottom of a beaker filled with water up to a height of 20cm.The refractive index of water wrt air is 2/3

### Solution :

Real dept =20cm

Refractive index of water wrt air =2/3

μ_{2}/ μ1=real depth/ apparent depth

2/3=20/ apparent depth

apparent depth =20*(2/3)

=13.33cm

Calculate the apparent depth of the coin? In a coin is placed at the bottom of a beaker filled with water up to a height of 80cm.The refractive index of water wrt air is 4/3.

### Solution :

Real dept =20cm

Refractive index of water wrt air =4/3

μ_{2}/ μ1=real depth/ apparent depth

4/3=80/ apparent depth

apparent depth =80*(4/3)

=106.66cm
