### Pulley formula :

1. Diameter and RPM of pulley

The product of the diameter of the speed of one pulley is equal to another pulley.

D_{1 }* n_{1 }= d_{2} * n_{2}

2.Belt velocity or RPM

It is the speed of the belt.

V = ( π * d_{1} * n_{1} ) / 60

3.Belt length

L = ( π * d_{1 }/2) + (π * d_{2 }/2 + 2D + ((d_{1}– d_{2})^{2} / 4D)

Belt Tension

F = P / V

Torque

T = P / ( 2 * π * n / 60 )

Where ,

d_{1 } → diameter of the driver pulley

d_{2}→ diameter of the driven pulley

n_{1} → angular velocity of the driver pulley

n_{2} → angular velocity of the driver pulley

v → belt velocity

l →length of the belt

D → distance between the centre of two pulley

P → transmitting power

F → belt tension

T → torque

N → angular velocity of each pulley

### Example :

Calculate the pulley system has 1000 RPM,1060 RPM and their angular velocities and 0.6 m,0.4 m as diameters of drivers pulley and driven pulley. The transmitting power and distance between their centers 1600 w and 2m . find belt speed, belt length , torque and tension?

### Solution :

diameter of the driver pulley d_{1} = 0.6 m

diameter of the driver pulley d_{2} = 0.4 m

angular velocity of the driver pulley n_{1} = 1000 RPM

angular velocity of the driver pulley n_{2 }= 1050 RPM

Transmitting power p = 1600 w

Distance between the centre of two pulley D = 2m

Belt velocity V = ( π * d_{1} * n_{1} ) / 60

V = (π * 0.6 * 1000 ) / 60

V = 1884.95 / 60

V = 31.415

Belt length L = ( π * d_{1 }/2) + (π * d_{2 }/2 + 2D + ((d_{1}– d_{2})^{2} / 4D)

=( π * 0.6/ 2) + (π * 0.4 /2 + 2(2)+((0.6 – 0.4 )^{2} / 4 (2)

=0.942 + 0.628 +4+0.02 / 8

=5.572

Tension F = P / V

= 1600 / 31.415

= 50.93

Torque of driver pulley T = P / ( 2 * π * n_{1} / 60 )

= 1600 / (2 * π * 1000 / 60 )

= 15.28 .
