## Heat Loss Formula :

**q=(U×A) × Δt**

Where,

q → total heat loss through the building in Btu/hr,

U → Overall coefficient of heat transmission through the building in w/m^{2 0}c

A→ the area in sq.ft of the building assembly with the coefficient of heat transmission U in m^{2}

Δt → temperature difference between inside and outside temperatures in K or ^{0}C

## Sample Problems :

### Example 1 :

Calculate the total heat loss from the building whose Area is 8.0 sq.ft, coefficient of heat transfer is 0.4 and the temperature difference is 30^{∘}C.

### Solution :

Given,

U=0.4

A=8.0sq.ft

Δt=30^{0}C

Substitute these values in the given formula

q=(U×A) × Δt

q=0.4×8.0×30

q=96watts

### Example 2:

Calculate the total heat loss from the building whose coefficient of heat value is 200watt; the Area is 5.40 meters and the value for ΔT is 1100 watts.

### Solution :

Given,

U=200watt

A=5.40metres

ΔT =1100watts.

Substitute the values in the given formula

q=(U×A) × Δt

q=200×5.40×1100

q=1188000watts
