Carnot Efficiency Equation :

Carnot efficiency equation η (p) in percent is equal to the Th and Tc are the absolute temperatures expressed in Kelvin Th(k) –  Tc(k)  in Kelvin and divided by the absolute temperature Th(k) in Kelvin and multiply the 100%.Hence the carnot Efficiency equation can be written as

η (p) = (Th(k) –  Tc(k)  / Th(k))*100%

Th and Tc are the absolute temperatures expressed in Kelvin

Example:1

Calculate the efficiency of a carnot engine with a hot reservoir of 2500 c and a cold reservoir of 250 C?

Answer:

Given that

Hot reservoir temperature Th=2500c

Cold Reservoir temperatuar Tc=250c

We know the formula of carnot efficiency

η = (Th –  Tc  / Th)*100%

substitute the input  parameters in the above equation we get

η = (Th –  Tc  / Th)*100%

η = (2500c – 250c)/ 2500c  *100%

η =90%

Example:2

Calculate the efficiency of a carnot engine with a hot reservoir of  4500 c and a cold reservoir of 2200 C?

Answer:

Given that

Hot reservoir temperature Th=4500c

Cold Reservoir temperatuar Tc=2200c

We know the formula of carnot efficiency

η = (Th –  Tc  / Th)*100%

substitute the input  parameters in the above equation we get

η = (Th –  Tc  / Th)*100%

η = (4500c – 2200c)/ 4500c  *100%

η=51.1%
